A large proportion of the projects undertaken by TS Booker are Laboratory Installations, our experience in this field of educational furniture is unrivalled.
This project involved TS Booker liasing with the client’s consultant and manufacturing, supplying and installing the laboratory furniture, gas taps, and water taps, sinks and waste fittings. The design included four straight island benches with sliding door storage, perimeter storage benching with Trespa worktops gas taps, fire-clay sinks and water taps, one demonstration bench that included a facility for a computer workstation and approximately five metres of tall storage with internal storage trays and adjustable shelves.
Consultation with the science teacher at this school resulted in an order being placed for two laboratories that included these special island units.
TS Booker listened to the schools requirements and developed a scheme that not only answered the brief but also met their budget. The island units included underbench storage, special areas for the pupil’s books, gas, electric and water services and plenty of unhindered kneespace.
The service pedestal & laboratory tables are an extremely popular method of furnishing a science laboratory. This type of solution offers full flexibility that can be manufactured to suit the schools requirements. The service pedestals are manufactured in a range of sizes to suit the room size and potential layout. They are available with any combination of gas, water, and electrical services and a comprehensive range of colours.
The tables can be repositioned to create many different layouts that would suit many different teaching styles.
The 1200 x 600 x 850h service pedestal can be supplied with two, three, four, five or six tables around. The flexibility of this product means that it is utilised in most science laboratories. Fire-clay sinks with water taps can also be fitted and used in conjunction with a mobile teacher’s desk to be used as a demonstration bench.
The pedestal and table worktops are manufactured to suit the client requirements. We offer a range of hardwood lipped laminate-faced worktops, Trespa athlon worktops or Solid Iroko hardwood.
When designing science laboratories particular care is taken to ensure that the distances between the workbenches is kept within the recommended distances as issued by the British standard BS3202 part 3.
Our designers also ensure that the pupils have sufficient kneespace and worktop area to undertake both written and practical work. The position of the water taps, gas taps and electrical sockets are all considered at the design stage, pupils do not have to stretch to reach the valves and switches.
Dedicated Information technology suites, GNVQ rooms, libraries, design & technology and science laboratories all require furniture for ICT.

This Internet café was developed as an area that would attract private business and be used for conferences and training purposes. Our production department liased with the client and developed these large islands and bespoke benches at a cost-effective price.
TS Booker regularly get involved with the design and development of City Learning Centres and the associated ICT rooms. We have designed a range of environments that are used by school pupils and private businesses. This project was based on shaped island units positioned around the room with the data and power services being fed from below, within the underbench units.
Peninsular Computer benching can be manufactured to any length and depth and include cable management where required. These benches were designed to maximise the workstation spaces in the classroom without reducing the number of class tables that were required. Circular, rectangular, hexagonal and octagonal shaped benches can all be manufactured in our factory.
As part of the increasing use of ICT in schools TS Booker suggest that Computer benching is considered in Science Laboratories and specialist rooms like Food technology and Art. Our design team make provision for computers by including open benching that matches the worktops for the rest of the area. The perimeter computer benching can be supplied and installed with or without wire management.
The island benching designed for this room incorporated curved ends and central storage units for the Computer towers. The underbench units included a side door for access to the electrical sockets at the rear of the processors.
The open ended cantilever benching allows for small group work and private individual workstations.
Design & technology has been through a period of change over the last few years. Schools vary in the way they choose to deliver the subjects; it is therefore important that the furniture & equipment for these areas is flexible and capable of a number of functions. TS Booker offer a range of products that meet the needs of pneumatics & control technology, light craft workshops, engineering workshops, wood/metal & plastics workshops, graphics and CAD/CAM workshops.
Multi-materials craft benches are designed and manufactured to meet the needs of the client. Worktops are available in a range of finishes and include solid beech, linoleum, plywood and stainless steel. Underframes can be supplied in steel or solid beech and come complete with underbench storage or space for pupils to sit.
These craft benches were supplied with planing stops, metalwork vices on filing trays, woodwork vices and underbench lockable storage.
A range of perimeter bench units including drawers can be supplied in a range of finishes. These units can be used to build island craft benches suitable for groups of two – four pupils. TS Booker also offers a service of replacement worktops for your existing craft benches.
This craft bench was designed and manufactured specially for a client. This craft bench is of solid beech construction with a spacious underbench storage unit. There is also sufficient kneespace to seat four pupils. The worktops were manufacture using 40mm solid beech and included a central tool well. The order was completed with worktop inserts so the bench could also be used for design work.
Special craft benches can be manufactured to order. The client on this project wanted a craft bench with solid beech top and steel undeframe. The perimeter benching complimented the craft benches and were also built using solid beech lippings and beech laminate.
This beech open under craft bench was designed to meet the flexible needs of many design & technology departments. The metal vice shown can be removed from the worktop and mounted on the underbench frame for localised storage. The woodwork vices used are 7” (178mm), the metalwork vices used are 3” (75mm).

This food technology refurbishment was undertaken as a full turnkey project. TS Booker stripped out the existing furniture, decorated the walls, installed a new suspended ceiling and inset lighting, rewired the rooms, installed a new heating system, laid a new floor finish and then supplied and installed the new furniture. The island units were manufactured to the clients brief.
Special attention is taken to ensure that the cookers, sinks and workstations are correctly positioned to minimise traffic around the room. All workstation storage is discussed in detail with the client. All plinths are scribed down to the floor and all awkward corners are panelled out to ease the cleaning task.
Worksurfaces are sealed back to the wall to stop water ingress.
A range of layouts can be supplied ranging from shaped peninsulars to island units. This scheme utilised a double sided peninsular bench with back to back cooker positons, cupboard drawer units and electric socket outlets. Loose tables compliment the scheme, they can be used individually or positioned against the peninsular to create extra working space.
These octagonal benches were manufactured with recessed underbench storage for pots and pans. The services were housed in the raised cooker back panels. Stools can be pushed under the worktop to ease congestion when pupils are doing practical work.
All food technology rooms that we design include a hand wash basin. This particular scheme made allowance for a bin under the exposed corner of the worktop. The corner of the worktop was rounded to reduce potential hazards.
To meet the needs and demands of these multi-functional teaching areas, TS Booker has developed a number of products that can be tailored to suit the clients requirements.

TS Booker has developed a swing out sewing machine workstation for use in textiles rooms. The sewing machine is stored at low level within the storage compartment and then by means of gas springs can be raised to worktop level. The whole unit can be swung back into the storage garage for additional security and therefore releasing more space in the centre of the room.
Large project tables can also be manufactured to suit the clients requirements.
Many textiles and art rooms require bespoke storage units for remnants, samples and artefacts. It is critical that account is taken of the storage requirements and TS Booker will manufacture units to suit.
Art room benching has to be robust enough to withstand the rigours of the subject being taught. All shelving that is supplied into rooms of this nature is 25mm thick and supported on heavy duty steel brackets.
Vertical and horizontal folio units can be manufactured to suit all board sizes. Every art room should include units of this type. Doors can be fitted if required, and a range of colours are available. Double drawer units can be manufactured in various depths and with various numbers of drawers.
TS Booker will also undertake the tiling work required. It is critical that the worktops and walls are protected from water penetration.
Adjustable height shelving with bookend brackets is also very useful for all types of storage.

Bespoke counters are designed and manufactured to suit the environment and the clients requirements. This counter formed the central focal point within a community library. Our project managers liased with the electrical consultants and designed the counter to include electrical power sockets, data & telephone points.
Perimeter single sided shelving is available in heights ranging from 900mm to 2000mm. Double-sided shelving is also manufactured in the same height ranges. All units are lipped with hardwood and faced with high-pressure laminate. An extensive range of colours is also available.
An alternative solution for library shelving is spur fittings with book end brackets.
The shelving can be manufactured in a range of materials, finishes and depths. The spur uprights are fitted to the wall and adjustable brackets can be supplied to suit the depth of shelf required. Angled display shelves are also available

Housecraft Apparatus Trolley
Each unit is 1067mm wide x 495mm deep x 700mm high, they contain eighteen 75mm high plastic trays behind lockable hinged doors. The top flap doors can be opened to reveal various 63mm high storage spaces for small components. The units are available in a range of colours that include red, blue, green, yellow, beech & grey.
A1 Paper storage trolley
Each unit is 1075mm wide x 700mm deep x 800mm high, they contain eight purpose made drawer trays to allow easy removal of the paper. Internal drawer dimensions are 950mm x 618mm x 70mm high. The units are available in a range of colours that include red, blue, green, yellow, beech & grey.
Geography Map chest
The unit comprises a mobile five drawer unit – 1310mm wide x 965mm deep x 570mm high with either a display case or tracing table top fitted above.
The display top includes flourescent tubes wired to a 13 amp plug to illuminate the interior. The tracing table top includes white inset plastic plates with lighting below.
